After 8 years, we have decided we will be officially ending ongoing work on Dancers & Dogs for the foreseeable future. We want to thank you all for helping us spread joy over the years!
It is a difficult decision not to go on, and not one we take lightly. But due to several reasons we will not be making new D&D work:
1. Cost - Dancers & Dogs is an expensive project - given the cost of travel, studio rentals, printing, shipping etc. This is not a non-profit and at the end of the day we have to make an income from our work. Costs on all the above have gone up considerably & sadly the cost of producing/printing another book that isn’t priced outrageously for you guys is not currently in the cards.
2. Health - While I (Kelly) am doing MUCH much better than I was 1-2 years ago, I am still working toward getting back to handling work that requires me to be at 100%, & D&D is very much dependent on me being at the top of my game.
3. Changes in social media - In the last few years, social media algorithms have made it more and more difficult to share photos. We’ve had to think through what kind of work would be necessary to continue this project. D&D would need to be my full-time job, becoming more of an “influencer “ of sorts, and I just haven’t felt like I am a) up to it, and b) wanting to focus only on D&D, leaving behind other work.
4. Time to explore new things - Dancers & Dogs is very much a part of my heart, soul and personality, so it is extremely difficult to wrap things up mentally. But as an artist, I definitely believe I have more in me that can bring people joy, and I’d like the ability to explore that.
So is this goodbye to Dancers & Dogs forever? Hard to say. Part of me doesn’t believe so. But right now is time for it to take a rest. Love to you all and keep spreading light in the world !
Kelly & Ian
